Getting Past a Weight-Loss Plateau

Getting Past a Weight-Loss Plateau

What exactly is a weight-loss plateau? This is an instance where one who is training and eating right to lose weight becomes stuck at a stage where lesser calories are being burned by the body. This happens because when you are in the process of losing weight, your metabolism eventually declines at some point, thus, the fewer calories being burned. This then slows down your weight loss even if you eat the same number of calories which helped you lose weight at the start. When the calories you eat equal to the calories you burn, you reach a plateau.

So how can we overcome this plateau? First, ask yourself if you are satisfied with the weight loss you have already reached. If not, follow the following steps below:

  • Reassess Your Habits

Make your diet and exercise plan sturdier and make sure to follow it more rigidly. Research suggests that off-and-on loosening of rules contributes to plateaus.

  • Cut More Calories

You can further cut your daily calorie intake provided that this does not go below 1,200 calories. Doing so will increase your risks of overeating due to constant hunger pains.

  • Up Your Workout

You can increase your workout minutes by adding 10 to 20 more.

  • Think Outside the Gym

Do more activities within your day aside from exercising. Increased general physical activity like walking more, doing more house chores, and doing yard work can contribute a positive effect as these help you burn extra calories.
